why will car not move forward or backward why turned on and running?

Car: Honda, Civic LX, 1990, 1.5     -    Back to Fix-It    -    Honda Civic LX Repair Manuals

Q.Car stopped moving forward while driving. It did not cut off or make any jerking movements or noises before stopping its forward movement. It would not move forward of backup after it stopped

I already checked/done: Had a mechanic check the car and he states that a new transmission is needed. We checked the transmission censor and changed the transmission fluid in the car.
