Failed State inspection

Car: Acura, Integra, 1988     -    Back to Fix-It    -    Acura Integra Repair Manuals

Q.Re 1988 Integra, failed Nitric Oxide smog test by 18% while passing all other tests. A recent replacement of fuel injecters and spark plugs did not change the problem. It has the 4 stroke DOHC engine and runs great.

Can you upload the test print out so I can see everything?

Answer NOX is caused by a high temp. In the combustion chamber. A couple of things can cause this. A cooling system problem, an EGR not working, valves needing adjustment. Honestly I think you'll need to take it to a shop to fix this problem. It's too high for a home fix. You'll likely need a couple things done to the vehicle to make it come down enough to pass. I'd rather be honest with you up front then recommend something and it wastes your time and you fail the next test.

Addition Thanks for the response.
I was not planning to do it myself, but wanted a heads-up on what the repair shop might say was the fix.
The radiator was recently replaced, also.

More Info required No problem. It could be a couple of simple things but it's hard to pinpoint that online.

Addition Please list any possible fixes without regard to the probability they are the correct ones.

Answer Okay,
ECT (engine coolant temp. Sensor)
Thermostat
Valves need adjustment
EGR (if equipped)
Fuel system too lean
